So last year I had a couple of posts dedicated to Melbourne because that was where the previous AMTA conference was held. This year, it was in Brisbane, so I headed up there. Unfortunately, next year I won't have anywhere new to go to- it's in Sydney!

The wonderful thing about Queensland is their transport. Definitely not as primitive as Sydney and its paper tickets. They use a "Go card", which works the same way the Octopus card in HK and in Singapore. Tap in when you get on the bus, tap out when you get off. I find myself fumbling for my card when I'm getting off because I forget about tapping off. How noob.

It was such a clear day, not a single cloud.

I don't know what this super giant doll figure is doing out in the middle of a park, but it was near where I was staying and had to walk past it to get to the nearest bus stop.

The only sun without a happy face. Did someone forget to sketch it on?

They were setting up for the next day. Might have been interesting to watch, but I was only going to spend one day at Gold Coast before heading up to Brisbane, so didn't get a chance. I always found circus to be creepy anyway..

Apparently it was raining the whole of the week before, but the week that the conference was on, it was super fine. Of course, when in Queensland, you can't miss out on the beaches. The whole place consists of beaches!

I can imagine my dad loving Queensland actually, just as a place to relax.

I was puzzled by these marks... are they crab marks?? They were everywhere.

Obviously one of those damn seagulls.

I know, I know, there's a hard rock cafe in Sydney too, why did I have to be so unadventurous and have it in Queensland too?

Couldn't walk any further. Must have walked at least 3 hours non-stop along the beaches, sometimes on sand (that doubles, no, triples, the effort of walking!) and my feet were extremely sore... slippers aren't exactly the most comfortable for walking long distance. Quick decision to find the closest place to eat something.

Could not finish! Was being greedy while ordering because I wanted to try their ribs, but also their slow-cooked (braised?) meat, and they had the trio platter anyway, so... why not...

Queensland's version of Hachiko. Trust Australians to name it "Matey" of all names.
End of day 1! On to Brisbane next~
